John DeLawyer is a native of Northern Wisconsin who became interested in aviation at an early age. Soloing a single engine aircraft just after his sixteenth birthday, the earliest a person may solo a powered aircraft, John trained hard and earned his FAA Private Pilot Certificate the very next year at the age of seventeen. His early certification as a pilot before graduating from high school afforded him a head start in his aviation career and an advantage in applying for and attending college. John’s love for selling also started early in his life as he spent time learning from and working with his father, a professional salesman for farm equipment, through the 1980’s. He quickly learned the value of acting in an ethical and professional manner at all times, developing lasting relationships with customers and working with them find the right equipment for their needs.
After graduation from high school, John was accepted to and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) in Prescott, AZ – a school regarded as one of the best colleges and universities for aviation studies in the world by industry leaders. His early start in aviation allowed John to quickly build flight time and experience through college and concentrate on academics. John graduated in 1995 with his Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Science. In addition to his academic degree, John also graduated with both the FAA Commercial Multi-Engine Land (MEL) & Single-Engine Land (SEL) certificates with the Instrument Rating on each. He also achieved the FAA Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument (CFII) rating, certifying him to instruct and train pilots up to the Instrument Rating.
Upon graduation from ERAU in 1995, John was hired by Diamond Aircraft as a Regional Sales Manager for the DA20 Katana and moved to Austin, TX to cover his territory in the states of Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. In 1997 John joined the Cutter Aviation aircraft sales team representing Mooney Aircraft and the Aviat Husky aircraft line from the Cutter Aviation sales and service facility in San Antonio, TX at San Antonio International Airport. In 2000 he was promoted to the Piper Aircraft Regional Sales Manager for Cutter Aviation’s Texas Piper Sales dealership covering South Texas. John has been involved with the HondaJet program since 2006 and currently serves the states of Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico as HondaJet Southwest Regional Sales Manager.
John is an extremely active pilot and has over 6,500 hours of flight experience with a wide array of aircraft types and flight environments in his logbook. John and his wife Kim live in San Antonio, TX with their three energetic young sons Nash, Dominic and Andrew.
